Woodworking Project - Jewelry Box
Back to the Rolling "M" Workshop Projects Page

I built this jewelry box for Shari for our second wedding anniversary. The second anniversary is the "Cotton Anniversary", but I couldn't come up with a good cotton gift, so I fell back on what I know, woodworking. A few years before Shari and I married, I had planned to buy her a nice jewelry box as a Christmas present. I was shocked at the price of a good quality oak jewelry box. Being a poor college student, I opted for a less expensive gift. But, I never really let go of the idea.

I started with the idea that I wanted to built an oak jewelry box that was large enough to store a variety of Shari's jewelry without being so big that it could not easily be moved. This is what I came up with. The Jewelry box features solid oak construction, brass hardware, a ring tray, and four felt-lined compartments for storing miscellaneous peices. The dimensions are 10 3/4"l x 5 1/4"w x 4"h. The finish is Minwax Red Oak (to match our bedroom furniture) with a semi-gloss polyurethane top coat.
