Home Improvement Project - Lee's Attic Remodel
Back to the Rolling "M" Workshop Projects Page
A couple of our friends, Lee and Leah, decided to remodel the attic of their home as a guest room. The attic was partially finished when the project began. The walls were covered with brown panneling, the foor was coved with recycled blue carpeting, and the ceiling was tiled. All of these components were in need of replacement and updating. And, the stairway was little more than a hole in the attic floor. There was no safety railing at all. I was around to help with the wiring, demolition and addition of the Stair railing. Lee and Leah took care of the rest themselves. Here are the steps that we took during this remodel:
- Removed old ceiling tile
- Removed old lighting
- Replaced lighting with new fixtures
- Added a three-way switches to control lighting from either top or bottom of staircase
- Added a new 240V circuit for a window AC unit
- Added a new half wall around stairway
- Added a new removable newel post and railing around stairway
