Title: Measure Once, Cut Twice: Lessons from a Master Carpenter
Author: Norm Abram
Publisher: Little, Brown, & Company
Date: 1995
Measure Twice, Cut Once: Lessons from a Master Carpenter is a collection of short essays from our old friend Norm Abram of This Old House and The New Yankee Workshop. In this book, Norm shares short stories, how-to's, and words of wisdom on everything from home repair, woodworking, and using hand tools to being a good friend, being a good father, and being a good son. Norm, the king of power tools, goes to great length to convey the value of and the correct use of many traditional carpenter's hand tools. He tells us stories of his childhood, his career as a general contractor and carpenter, and his relationships with friends, family, and the public. This book is an inspirational must-read for anyone who is interested in woodworking, home repair and construction, hand tools, or just being the best that you can be. I've read it cover to cover twice and I find myself going back to it time and time again as a reference or just for fun. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
I found my copy at Restoration Hardware, but you can pick it up at any major book store.
