Woodworking Project - Simple Book Shelves
Back to the Rolling "M" Workshop Projects Page

Lee Harvey and his Dad built a porch swing for the ranch and in return, I built two sets of book shelves for Lee's parent's sun room. The shelves are demensioned specifically to sit on a narrow ledge flanking the french doors into their sun room. So, they are only 6 7/8" deep. The carcass is constructed of 3/4" Luan plywood and the face frames are pine. The quality of wood was not critical because the shelves are going to be painted to match the room and "built-in" to the door way. I left the backs of the shelves open to keep from blocking the windows into the home's dining room. All said and done, these shelves look very much like the cheap white laminate covered shelves that you see in home improvement centers. The difference is that these shelves are MUCH stronger and are sized to fit the space exactly. The over-all demensions are 81.5"h x 33"w x 6 7/8"d. The total cost is $35 per set.
