The Schuyler County Humane Society bases its constitution on the principles of the Humane Society of the United States.  Our ultimate goal is to build and maintain an animal shelter 24 hours a day on the outskirts of Rushville, Illinois,  population 3,500.  While the county itself is home to approximately 8,000 people, it has done very little to provide and  maintain a humane environment for its stray animals.  Our county pound is nothing more than a Morton Building with no windows, no air conditioning, no heat, and cement floors.  At the present time, 80% of our pound animals are being euthanized each year.  We would like to see our situation change.  That is why we are working very hard to raise the funds to make these changes possible.
