CRGC METROPOLIS CRUISE WEEKEND 10-14-16, 2005
CGRC
VP Mike Hausman led
a small but powerful convoy to
Calvert City, Kentucky. There
we enjoyed the fun of a drive-in
movie, with the best hamburgers
in the Tri-State area, (and they
were, too.) This was Friday
night and the weekend was just
geting underway. Tomorrow -
The Fort Massac Encampment.
Next morning it was over to Fort
Massac for the Encampment.
Here's a collage of the morning colors
ceremony. It was French, British,
and Colonial American troops, all
with their marching bands.

There was plenty of entertainment, too.
Here you see the crowd being
wowed by a juggling act.
And
there was shopping, too. Here
you see Doc Hollada and Mike
Hausman shopping for the
newest fashions in men's
hats.
Then
we got into the Hollywood museum for
free, due to Mike's connections. Here you see
the Marilyn Monroe room.
Then
we convoyed over to the Superman Museum,
which is owned by the same ultra-collector who
owns the Hollywood Museum. Here you see
the actual props used in the filming of the
Superman TV series in the '50's. They were
filming these episodes around the same time
that the General was making solid axles.
Once again, Mike's connections got us in for free.
Thanks Mike!
Then
for dinner we convoyed to a Lodge right on
the Ohio river for a prime rib buffet. The food was
great, and our round-table of Corvetters had a
lively time. Here you see the view of the river
at sunset. The sky was so clear that when we looked
back in the other direction, we could almost see
Pittsburg, Pa.

And for those who missed this CGRC weekend cruise-in,
I'll leave you with this thought. After we got back to Metropolis
from the prime rib dinner at the lodge, Gerri and I were a bit thirsty,
so I suggested we go to the boat, which was only a block away
from our motel. While we quenched our thirst, I put in $11 in
a video poker machine and won the jackpot you see. But get this-
the lady next to me won a jackpot at just about the same time. It
could have been you if you had been with us.
So Mike, you did a heck of a job setting up a great weekend
cruise-in; it was educational as well as entertaining, and as you can
see, rewarding. Thanks, buddy.
So that is a run-down of the 2005 Metropolis, Illinois Weekend Cruise-in.
As I have said in the past, "If you missed it,
you missed it." Now it is time to work on 2006 events.
